My first ever attempt at the 100 Word Challenge! (The hardest bit was working out how to do all the linking!!! And I still can’t do it. If anyone knows how…PLEASE tell me!!!!)
*UPDATE* Thank you so much for all your advice and suggestions on here and via Twitter. Thanks to Notquiteold, I’ve finally managed to link to the post here!
Anyway, the word is RUBY. Here goes…..
Our first cat was called Santa. She was a female tabby but we got her at Christmas so Santa (Claws) she was. Then came Pickle, a bruiser of a tom who used to look at me with contempt. Our third cat was called Ruby. A dear little thing, the runt of the litter and a gorgeous little tortoiseshell with huge eyes. She would curl up in my cowl neck jumper, resting on my chest, purring happily. She didn’t really ever grow, she was tiny. She only survived two years, she was not really meant for this world.
Dear little baby Rubes.
Hello You & a warm welcome to 100WCGU!
From reading this I’m glad you have found us and I hope you will continue to share your writing. Although sad, this is a lovely description of that relationship we have with cats!!
Thank YOU for the challenge, I have certainly enjoyed it and I am really touched by the lovely comments I’ve received. I am formulating my next piece as we speak!! 🙂
So sad and a lovely piece of writing. Our beautiful cat Danny is now nearly 8, don’t know what I would do without him.
Thank you, Santa was our longest lived cat and we lost her when she was 13 after she was run over, sadly.
I love the names you have chosen for your animals. It’s always sad that they have shorter lives than us and good that we can cherish them. A really nice piece.
We went on to have a Willow, a Coco (Chanel) and a Peggy Sue, all characters and all sadly gone now. Oh, and a cat that adopted us who we named Pusskin!
More great names!
Aww what a beautiful but sad piece. Gorgeous sounding cat. x
She was one of those ‘special’ little cats, so very beautiful 🙂
Lovely write …
Isadora
Thank you, I’m really touched by the nice comments I’ve received 🙂
ah it’s terribly sad to lose a pet.
It is. My dog is 13 and I am dreading the day we lose him…..

I only have two offerings for this challenge so far. For your first try you did very nicely. A cute and touching story. I’ll look forward to your next installment.
Oh, thank you! I quite like being ‘told’ what to write….!
This was lovely – Ruby sounds like a gorgeous cat. Maybe not meant for this world, but thanks to you she had two happy years in it.
Really sorry I wasn’t able to help you with the badge.
Thank you, I’m sure i’ll work it out eventually! 🙂
Poor Ruby. As a cat lover I could really identify with this piece. Well done.
Thank you, she had a very happy, if short, life 🙂
I’m not sure what kind of link you are trying to do. Maybe this will help.
When I add a simple link:
On a separate tab open the file you want to link to.
In the body of your post write the words (for example, the name of the post) you want to link to. Highlight those words. Then click on the link button. You will get a pop up for the link address. Copy the link address from the file that you had opened earlier. Paste it in the space for the link on your popup. Click “add link” . (If you are linking to one of your own posts, that’s even easier, because WordPress has a drop down list.
Well, I am sure that is what I was doing and I have done it in the past so I know I can do it! But it just wasn’t having it yesterday! Now I’ve calmed down, i’ll have another go today!!! Thank you!! 🙂
Hurrah, it worked!! Thank you! Still need to work out how to do a badge again but I did the important bit, and I linked you in too for helping me!! 🙂
Ah, this made me feel sad…have 2 much loved cats (mum and son…rescued..had for almost 3 years) and would be so sad to lose them . Nicely written.
Thank you. I have had a total of 7 cats plus one who adopted us for a while. Not all at the same time though! Now, I just have a smelly old dog!
A moving piece about a much loved little cat. So sad that she was never meant for this world.
I adored her, she was so affectionate….I have a photo of her somewhere, I should scan it and put it with this post
Is this a true story?
Yes. I have had quite a few cats since too. None for a few years now though 🙂
Aww sweet. Ruby sounds like she was a super cat.
She was so adorable. I was very upset when we lost her.
Ruby sounds lovely. I had a cat called leon who was run over by a car which was so sad at the time. Brought back memories.
Santa was run over by a car too but she lived to a grand old age before we lost her
